What is Coaching?
The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential even in the face of growing complexity". **
As a coach, I work with clients to develop professional goals that enable them, as successful leaders, to lead more effectively through positive behavior change that is sustained, recognized, and acknowledged by others. Coaching conversations help clients to examine closely what actions it will take to move towards those goals and overcome barriers or hurdles that may have seemed insurmountable in the past. Coaching is all about working with someone who believes in you and encourages you, about getting valuable feedback, seeing things from new perspectives, and setting your sights on new horizons. My clients are leaders who want to take their careers to the next level or resolve patterns and situations that recur in their professional lives. They call me because they want to develop their leadership presence, improve communication and engagement, clarify priorities, and make important decisions. Together, we discuss goals and action plans so they can produce results that align with their vision or purpose. ** Coaching is not advising or consulting, training, mentoring, or counselling. "The best coaching is customized to fit the needs of each client. Rather than give advice, coaches partner with clients and use skilled questioning to better understand the person and what really matters to them. That is how they reach the decisions that are best for them and are able to create lasting change."
