What IS coaching?
The International Coach Federation (ICF) defines coaching as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential even in the face of growing complexity"**.
As coaches, we work with clients to develop personal, professional or business goals. Coaching conversations help our clients to examine closely what actions it will take to move towards those goals and overcome barriers or hurdles that may have seemed insurmountable in the past. Coaching is all about working with someone who believes in you and encourages you, about getting valuable feedback, seeing things from new perspectives, and setting your sights on new horizons.
I primarily provide executive and leadership coaching. I also work with clients who want life or career coaching. Most of my clients are leaders in healthcare who want to take their careers to the next level. They call me because they want to clarify their priorities, make important decisions, develop goals and action plans, and produce results that align with their vision or purpose. Typically they want to develop new goals or businesses, create more balanced lives, or resolve patterns and situations that recur in their work as leaders.
** Coaching is not advising or consulting, training, mentoring, or counselling. For more information, see this brochure.
"The best coaching is customized to fit the needs of each client. Rather than give advice, coaches partner with clients and use skilled questioning to better understand the person and what really matters to them. That is how they reach the decisions that are best for them and are able to create lasting change."
